News brief

Abu Muhammed al-Adnani, the Islamic State spokesman and second most powerful commander, has been reported killed as he inspected forces in Aleppo province, according to the ISIS-affiliated Amaq News Agency. Al-Adnani called in May for Islamic State followers to carry out attacks during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, a call that was followed by terrorist attacks at an Orlando nightclub and several other locations. Al-Adnani also planned attacks in Paris in November 2015 and in Brussels in March.
