Beginning Nov. 1, 2016, customers who apply for or renew their U.S. passport or U.S. visa must remove their glasses when they have their photos taken. The U.S. Department of State says that last year, more than 200,000 people seeking U.S. passports submitted poor quality photos that could not be accepted. The top problem was glasses; as a result, passport applications had to be put on hold because individuals couldn’t be clearly identified from their photos. Existing unexpired passports do not have to be replaced.
