State Rep. Mike Hubbard visits AUFSI

State Rep. Mike Hubbard (R-Auburn) visited with Food Systems Institute staff during the recent opening of the new Mike Hubbard Center for Advanced Science, Innovation and Commerce building in the Auburn University Research Park. AUFSI has moved its offices to the building, which is designed to enhance Auburn’s research in bioenergy, water quality, food safety and engineering, genomics, information science and ecosystem health. The building offers 20 high-tech laboratories for interdisciplinary research, including three food safety labs (look for more details in an upcoming issue of E-News). The center was constructed with $14.5 million in competitive funding from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology and $14.1 in state funds, which Hubbard was instrumental in securing.
